Tied Notes
Another way of extending the duration of a note is by tying it to another note. Notes that are tied to one another MUST be on the same line or in t he same space.
The tie is the curved line that goes from the first note to the second. Here, notes in separate bars are tied together. This is fine. Three, four or even more notes of the same pitch can be tied together.
In the above example, the first whole note is played and held for the duration of the second, giving a total of 8 uninterrupted beats.
